The ‘Spaniard’ Rodrigo Zalazar, in the ideal eleven of the Bundesliga… but ignored by Uruguay

Rodrigo Zalazar has come back strong from his injury which kept him away from Schalke’s German midfield for more than a month, where he is already an idol at 23.

He second footballer son of the legendary José Luis Zalazar was born in Albacete, where his father played, and, post-injury, had a spectacular February, despite playing just three Bundesliga games in February. His level was so high that he appeared in the ideal eleven together with crackers like Coman or Thomas Müller.

Of course, despite being born and raised in Spain – until he emigrated to the Bundesliga (Eintracht, St. Pauli, Schalke…) -, Rodrigo never played for La Roja, given that his football homeland is Uruguay. It is a different case from the Argentines Garnacho or Emi Buendíawho tried with outnumbered Spain.

But the curious thing is that, despite this, Rodrigo was ignored by Marcelo Broli, interim manager of Uruguay, in the call for 35 footballers! who will have to face the March friendlies against Japan and South Korea. 35… and Rodrigo Zalazar is not there.

PlayerIn the meantime, he remains focused on saving his bottom team Schalke of the Bundesliga, albeit just three points from safety. Today, in fact, he plays against Bochum… who are second from bottom.

The Zalazars keep making noise, and Rodrigo wants to ‘eat’ the Bundesliga. Uruguay, meanwhile, looks at him in the distance… for now.
