A fire broke out in a security service building in southern Russia in the latest unexplained fire since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
According to reports, explosions were heard around the compound of the Federal Border Service FSB office in the city of Rostov-on-Don, about 75 miles from the Russian-Ukrainian border.
Video shared on social media shows the fire from different angles, with smoke billowing into the sky.
The cause of the fire was unknown as of Thursday afternoon, although the Kyiv Post reported that “munitions are most likely exploding.” Another social media user suggested the fire started in a warehouse near the FSB building.
Twitter account Live UA Map tweeted that firefighters at the scene “requested armor plates as explosions continue and shrapnel is flying.”
In addition to pictures of the fire, the former spokeswoman for Ukrainian President Iuliia Mendel tweeted“Don’t rush to blame Ukraine. It could be a provocation or a domestic struggle. Remember their intelligence and defense agencies are fighting for influence.”
This is an evolving story and will be updated with more information.
