Young MA fans have had concerns for the rapper’s health after a video of them getting a haircut went viral.
Young MA, real name Katorah Marrero, subsequently spoke out on the issue and defended the original person who shared the video. The clip shows the rapper sitting in a barber chair and showing off his new work.
In the video, the whites of Young MA’s eyes appeared to have a yellow cast. Thousands of people expressed concern for Young MA’s health, while there were also clashes between those joking and those defending the “Ooouuu” hitmaker.
The video was originally shared by @fatsdabarber and Young MA reposted it on her Instagram Stories. It was then shared by @SaycheeseDGTL on Twitter, where it received over 7.7 million views.
Many people suggested the 30-year-old rapper might be suffering from jaundice, which is a medical condition when the whites of a person’s eyes turn yellow. One of the causes of this is acute liver failure. In June 2021, Young MA announced on Instagram that she checked herself into rehab to “lose that addiction.”
After seeing the Young MA video he posted went viral, @fatsdabarber took to Instagram to defend himself against the backlash.
“You guys have so much to say as if I’m trying to embarrass my mate. She reposted my video, if she didn’t want me to record it she would have told me. You know neither our bond nor our friendship.”
@Fatsdabarber then addressed those concerned about Young MA’s health: “What you all have to do is just send your prayers for her and that’s it. She hasn’t had a haircut in a month and she wanted me to bring her haircut back to life I did!!! Thank you sis for coming and rocking with me as always. I love you.”
Upon seeing his statement, Young MA took a stand for her friend on her own Instagram stories.
“We bless, don’t let this get to you,” she wrote. “…and I told you it’s been about 4 months,” Young MA added with a laughing emoji.
The young MA’s previous addiction problems have been raised by many online who have speculated about her health and suggested it might be related to alcohol, although there is no confirmation that this is the case.
Milago Gramz wrote to her 39,000 followers: “If people are that concerned about Young Ma, we should be seeing prayers and not people tearing them down, right?
“Damn what happened to the young mother? First we saw her in a wheelchair, now she’s been seen like that again?” Twitter user Qura wrote, referencing another viral video from December, where Young MA was seen using a power wheelchair in a shop.
People compared Young MA’s comments to the late Chadwick Boseman, who was also a subject of speculation before his death in August 2020.
“The internet jokes about Young MA just like you joked about Chadwick when he was ill. You guys really don’t learn,” Nuff wrote on Twitter. “I don’t like people saying rude things about Young MA’s looks…” added @callmekaylav, “You all did the same thing when Chadwick Boseman lost weight… we don’t know these people’s lives.”
Young MA is a rapper best known for her song “Ooouuu,” which has featured in songs with Eminem, T-Pain, and Young Thug. She also played Mister Robot and directed adult films.
