Will there be season 2 of Walker Independence? Series boss teases future

Walker’s independenceThe CWs walker Spin-off, is concluding its first season, leading fans to wonder if the show will return for a second installment.

The 13th and final episode of Walker’s independence Season 1 entitled “Let Him Hang” aired on Thursday March 2nd.

The series is a prequel to Jared Padalecki starring walkerLed by Katherine McNamara as Abby Walker, an ancestor of Padalecki’s Cordell Walker who lived in the late 1800s.

The character is a wealthy Bostonian whose husband is murdered before her eyes while traveling west.

On their quest for revenge, Walker crosses the paths of Hoyt Rawlins, a loveable villain in search of meaning, and their journey eventually takes them to the city of Independence, Texas, where they meet diverse, eclectic residents uneasy about their own Fleeing the past chasing their dreams.

The show has proven extremely popular with fans of the original walker and newcomers to the series alike, but will that be enough to secure another batch of episodes?

Walker’s independence Showrunner Seamus Kevin Fahey has expressed his hopes that the show will be renewed for a second season, although The CW has not confirmed anything at the time of writing.

Fans were concerned that the series could end after its initial appearance due to complications behind the scenes on the network.

In August 2022, Nexstar Media Group, America’s largest local television and media company, acquired a majority stake in The CW, and executives indicated there would be a change in direction for the network.

This included targeting older viewers and a greater focus on unscripted programming.

Then, in a quarterly earnings call in November 2022, Lee Ann Gliha, Nexstar’s executive vice president and chief financial officer, said they would acquire a “minimal” amount of programming from The CW’s former parents; Paramount Global and Warner Bros. Discovery, according to via diversity.

CEO Perry Sook reportedly added that “there may be a few shows that stand out that we’d like to postpone until next year.”

Although the Daniel Ezra-led All Americans is the only CW series to have a confirmed future beyond 2023, having recently been renewed for Season 6, Fahey is confident Walker’s independence will also be one of those shows that will be televised.

“It was an interesting time. It’s been an interesting few months. As for what’s going on in the city, there’s just a lot of reinvention and restructuring going on and so we’re still waiting for the dust to settle a bit [to] to find out where we really stand,” Fahey told TVLine Walker’s independence season finale.

He continued, explaining that while the show has “a lot of fans on The CW” and “a lot of people love the show,” they “still come out of a fog of speculation to find out.” [if]hopefully, [the show has] a home.”

All hope is not lost, however, even if The CW doesn’t take off Walker’s independence For a second season, Fahey has hinted there could still be opportunities for the cast and crew to return.

The showrunner, who has also worked on TV series such as The following, American godsAnd Deadly WeaponHe teased that “there’s definitely a plan B,” but admitted, “I don’t know how much I’m allowed to talk about it.”

“There are still many champions for it. So we’ll see what happens. Nobody wants it to go away, long story short. We’ll do everything we can to make sure that doesn’t happen.” he added.

McNamara leads the cast of Walker’s independence as Abby Walker, while Hoyt Rawlins is played by Matt Barr, who also played mostly a descendant of his character walker Series.

Philemon Chambers (Single all the time) plays Gus, the deputy sheriff for the city of Independence, and Lawrence Kao (Wu Assassin) plays Kai, a former railroad worker-turned-laundry owner.

Greg Hovanessian plays the sheriff of Independence – and the horse thief who murdered Abby’s husband – as Tom Davidson, while Justin Johnson Cortez (9-1-1: Lone Star) is Calian, a member of an indigenous scout who saves Abby from death.

Gabriela Quezada (9-1-1) plays Lucia Reyes, a singer at the local dance hall, and Katie Findlay (How to get away with murder) plays Kate, a federal agent dressed up as a burlesque dancer.

Walker’s independence Season 1 is available to stream on Paramount+.
