shadow and bone is inspired by the works of Leigh Bardugo, and Season 2 adapts a number of her books.
Bardugo’s novels share the collective title Grishaverse, named for the characters who possess a variety of powers known as the Grisha.
So far, the Grishaverse consists of the shadow and bone trilogy, the Six crows duology and the king of scars duology. It also includes collections of short stories such as The Language of Thorns, The Lives of the Saints and the graphic novel The demon in the forest.

In Season 2 of the Netflix hit, Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) is still on the run with Mal Oretsev (Archie Renaux) after the events of Season 1, but the pair are quickly drawn back into the fight to save their homeland of Ravka .
Alina makes it her mission to find the last of Ilya Morozova’s boosters to increase her powers and defeat General Kirigan aka The Darkling (Ben Barnes) and tear down the Shadow Wrinkle he unleashed on Ravka centuries earlier.

“And when you have such a large and exciting cast list as ours, we knew right away that we had to find the most aerodynamic story possible that would allow us to hit the moments with Alina’s development and her arc […] but then allowed us to move on to either of Nikolai’s team or the Crows or any number of other new characters we introduced here. So it was about feeding a lot of mouths.”
