wheel of fortune Host Pat Sajak slammed a contestant whose guesswork made him a bit sad.
Sajak, 76, stood alongside England-born but now Texas-based Jennifer as she attempted to guess the riddle in the final bonus round on Wednesday’s show.
“You have 10 seconds to try to pronounce it, good luck,” Sajak advised her for the puzzle, which was in the Phrases category and spelled “NOTH_N_ _ _ _ ES _O_” after choosing her letters.
Jennifer’s first attempt got the audience laughing, “Nothing loves you,” before saying, “Nothing…else…you…nothing.”
Disheartened by her choices, the longtime host told Jennifer, “That was a depressing resolution.”
The answer was “nothing scares you” and Sajak had even more depressing news for Jennifer when he told her that she missed out on winning a Lincoln car because she didn’t solve the riddle.
“Well, I’m sorry,” Sajak told the candidate.
Fans reacted to the moment The Wheel of Fortune official Twitter account and praised Jennifer’s attempts.
“Jennifer was a phenomenal contestant, even in this bonus round puzzle. Great show,” commented one fan.
Another added: “I liked Jennifer’s guess.”
And a third wrote: “Rooting for the British Queen! GoJennifer.”
Jennifer’s awkward moment comes just days after Sajak came under fire for poking fun at a contestant’s phobia during the show.
Ashley Laumb, of Tacoma, Wash., admitted she “don’t like fish” during her Q&A on a show in early March.
“You don’t like to eat them? You don’t like to swim with them?” Sajak questioned her.
“Nothing, nothing at all,” answered Laumb. “If they’re on a plate or in the water, I don’t want to be near them.”
Sajak continued with his questions: “When you were a little girl, were you afraid of them?”
“That’s a long story, Pat. We don’t have time,” joked Laumb.
But later in the episode, Sajak reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a fake fish. He waved it around and then handed it to another candidate.
“Ashley, are you alright!? Big winner $23,000!” Said Sajak to a visibly annoyed Laumb. “You’ll forgive me, won’t you?”
But Laumb had the last laugh and won the bonus round, walking away with $63,000.
Fans of the show were not happy with Sajak’s stunt and complained about it on the show’s official Instagram page. “Pat is shady,” one person wrote in the comments.
